Holbrook Landcare and helpful volunteers have been busy putting up new nest boxes for Gliders at the Ian Geddes Reserve, Holbrook. Read more about the works undertaken, and how you too can build your very own wildlife nest box.

You may have noticed a lot has been happening at the Ian Geddes Reserve in Holbrook. Learn more about the recent works undertaken to improve waterway health and create habitat for Southern Pygmy Perch at the local reserve, as well as nest box installation and an upcoming working bee.

The Tumut Grevillea is an endangered plant that's only found along a short section of the Goobarragandra River. The Landcare nursery at Tumut grows Tumut Grevillea as one of many plants which are suitable for local conditions.

In the upper reaches of the Mountain Creek, habitat restoration for the endangered Southern Pygmy Perch also has many benefits for landholders, revitalising much-loved and valuable creek systems.

Central Billabong landholders celebrate the incredible success of willlow removal projects over the past 15 years, which have turned clogged creeks into broad, navigable waterways, flanked by redgums and revegetation plantings, and home to native fish and birds.

Be part of the Refreshing Rivers Program in the Upper Billabong, and join Holbrook Landcare Network for a family-friendly morning in nature as we care for the beautiful Ian Geddes Reserve along Ten Mile Creek.

Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned gardener, this workshop will teach you the techniques for propagating one of our regions rarest native plants, the Tumut Grevillea. In doing so you will be part of a program assisting with the recovery of this critically endangered plant.

Through the efforts of YACTAC, Yarkuwa, the Refreshing Rivers program, and Kolety-Werkul Rangers, native plants are now taking root in and around the waterway, blending cultural knowledge, local collaboration, and environmental care to create a healthier, more vibrant creek for future generations

Dive into the fascinating world of freshwater mussels with Dr Nicole McCasker, mussel expert, from Charles Sturt University, and local cultural knowledge holder Ros Lockhart. This is a family-friendly event, so come along and help us discover more about these incredible creatures.

Creating a welcoming environment the "Women's Yarning Circle" event is for women of the Central Billabong to gather, collaborate, be creative, share stories (cultural, Indigenous and other), and lunch on the banks of the Billabong Creek near Jerilderie.

Join us for an evening wetland walk, talk and free bbq dinner. Friday March 8th 2024 5.30 pm - 8.30 pm Topics include: aquatic and riparian vegetation, environmental water in the Yanco Creek System, wetland fish, bats and rakali, frog identification and spotlight

YACTAC were out in the New Year on the Billabong Creek, Conargo, releasing 27,273 golden perch (Macquaria ambigua) fingerlings as part of the Refreshing Rivers Program which aims to improve local waterway health.

In December 2024 Kylie Durant met up with local landholder and small-bodied fish breeder, Lachie Nevison, to plant some water plants in the Ten Mile Creek in Ian Geddes Bush Reserve, Holbrook NSW. We followed up in February to see how they were doing after a hot, dry summer...

What an enormous weekend! The HLN Bioblitz team (Peter, Kylie and Jo) spent Friday to Monday blitzing the Upper Billabong.

Love Your Creek! Refreshing Rivers and Holbrook Landcare Network are teaming up to participate in the Great Southern BioBlitz 2023 [#GSB2023], with a focus on our creeks and waterways.

Luke Pearce from NSW DPI Fisheries broke the ice on the water this morning to collect these special threatened fish! So rewarding to see one of the last populations in the Murray catchment persisting at this site due to the hard work from Holbrook Landcare Network, Fisheries and local landholders.

Murray Cod would have once been common in local waterways including Adelong Creek. Declining water quality, introduction of exotic fish species and loss of native habitat, meant that these fish had not been recorded in the Creek for many years - until now!
