Shrimp and turtles, discovering Billabong Creek

Local ecologist, Dan Hutton, had students looking at life up close with the prolific Australian glass shrimp. These Species provide a vital food source for our native fish. Eastern long necked turtled joined the show, learning how to differentiate male from female by looking at the underbelly.

2025 Carp Electrofishing Update

The latest carp electrofishing and removal event on April 17, 2025, has once again shown the success of the ROAR case study project in reducing invasive fish populations in Billabong Creek, Conargo, as part of the wider Refreshing Rivers Program.

Mussel Mission a Success for Boys to the Bush at Euroley

On March 27th, 2025, Boys to the Bush teamed up with Murrumbidgee Landcare’s Jessie McPherson and YACTAC’s Andrea Mitchell for a fun and hands-on citizen science event at the top of Yanco Creek, near Euroley.

Threatened Southern Pygmy Perch plucked from the icy Mountain Creek

Luke Pearce from NSW DPI Fisheries broke the ice on the water this morning to collect these special threatened fish! So rewarding to see one of the last populations in the Murray catchment persisting at this site due to the hard work from Holbrook Landcare Network, Fisheries and local landholders.

Fishcare Event Delivers 'Stunning' Surprise

Murray Cod would have once been common in local waterways including Adelong Creek. Declining water quality, introduction of exotic fish species and loss of native habitat, meant that these fish had not been recorded in the Creek for many years - until now!

The Refreshing Rivers Program works on Country that always was and always will be Aboriginal land. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land and waters, and we pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
