We're doing some work on the Ten Mile Creek in the Ian Geddes Bush Reserve. Our Community Working Bee will be on on Sunday 11th August 2024 from 10-12pm. It will be just a low key morning of a little bit of planting on the creek bank and some bush regeneration-style weed control

We have been working on the Ian Geddes Bushwalk as a demonstration site for waterways for our Refreshing Rivers program - 2 community working bees doing bush regeneration style weed control and replanting.

Murray Cod would have once been common in local waterways including Adelong Creek. Declining water quality, introduction of exotic fish species and loss of native habitat, meant that these fish had not been recorded in the Creek for many years - until now!
The Adjungbilly Creek in the Upper Riverina Highlands is home to one of 4 remaining populations of the endangered Macquarie Perch in NSW. With the help from traditional owners, we trialled a spotlighting as a method of monitoring Maccas.

YACTAC, with Refreshing Rivers and DPI Fisheries grants, released 25,714 golden perch fingerlings. Golden perch, also known as yellow belly, are a native species of the Murray Darling Basin. Once abundant, populations have suffered due to habitat degradation, invasive species and river regulation.
Over the course of several events in late 2022 and early 2023, significant work has been undertaken to restore fish habitat on the Colombo Creek. Schoolkids helped plant trees, while a separate event was held to reduce carp numbers through electro-fishing.
You know you've hit on something big when farmers stop what they are doing, in one of the busiest months of the year, to keenly participate in a workshop. Interest in the African Boxthorn biocontrol pilot program demonstrated just how much of a problem Boxthorn is.
Local ecologist, Dan Hutton, had students looking at life up close with the prolific Australian glass shrimp. These Species provide a vital food source for our native fish. Eastern long necked turtled joined the show, learning how to differentiate male from female by looking at the underbelly.
